5 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO BOOST YOUR SPIRITS
YOU CAN’T BE UPBEAT ALL THE TIME and on some days things just don’t go to plan and you end up in the doldrums. I thought I’d share a few tips on how to shake of the blues and kick-start your HP ( Happiness Quotient!) Is that even a term? ..oh well, I’ll roll with it.
1 Smile – Smiling can make you happy (even when you are not), it also makes other people happy, helps you de-stress and can even lead to laughter! Smile at a stranger and see what reaction you get. (Yes I am that nutter on the train and tube who smiles and talks to people I don’t know!)
2 Get outside – A brisk walk in the fresh air does wonders for your endorphins, better still walk with a mate. (WALKIE TALKIE!)
3 Eat healthy food – I know there is a tendency to reach for the “treat box” when you are not feeling great, but try and avoid sugary foods, snacks and drinks. Nourishing your body with healthy soul food and plenty of fluids will help you feel more energised, positive and less lethargic.
4 Plan something nice – Having something to look forward to is always uplifting and helps you focus on good things to come. Why not arrange one evening out or even book a holiday? Write a bucket list of all the things you’d like to do this year and start working your way through it.
5 Interact with others -The tendency to lock yourself away when you’re not feeling on top is common. I know from my own experience that if I sit in front of a computer for too long it makes me miserable. Phone a friend or grab a coffee with someone who makes you laugh… call me I’ll have a laugh!
6 Your bonus tip .. because I did say 5 but I came up with 6 … Random acts of kindness. – Focusing your attention on someone else who needs your help and support can be immensely uplifting. Doing something nice for others gives us a rush of euphoria, which releases endorphins, our bodies’ natural painkillers.
